Alexandra Bokova stays true to herself as she navigates Hollywood
Our cover star is the beautiful and talented actress Alexandra Bokova. Her impressive acting chops and unique features cemented her as an Art House film fan favorite. With some very versatile credits under her belt, Alexandra (who friends call Sasha) prides herself on avoiding being typecast and embraces being an outlier- not an easy venture for an actress navigating Hollywood.
“There are a lot of changes going on in Hollywood right now. We had the strike, and now our beautiful city is devastated by the rapid spread of fires. It’s been truly heartbreaking, I had to evacuate my house and I am so sorry for all those who have lost their homes. It is a very difficult time for everyone. Our city, our home, our creative playground is in ashes right now. The beautiful thing I witnessed is that Angelino’s truly rally for each other. I have utmost respect and gratitude for our fire department and first responder’s, women and men on the frontlines fighting for our lives and our city. Canadian firefighters came through and are a tremendous help to us. There is such a sense of community and people coming together. It’s absolutely incredible. This obviously puts a pause on things as far as the industry goes. People have lost so much and the fires aren’t even contained yet. The most important thing right now is to save our city, quite frankly, prevent any more casualties and help all those who have been devastatingly impacted. What the future holds as far as Hollywood goes, I don’t know. But I am certain that we will all be stronger from this. The most beautiful, creative things have often come from loss and tragedy.”
Her leading debut in thriller “Mermaid Down” was released a mere few months before the COVID lockdown. While the world was filled with uncertainty during the lockdown, many Hollywood projects got shelved and cancelled. Shortly after the lockdown was lifted, Hollywood unions were on strike and actors, particularly independent artists, found themselves without work yet again. Alexandra did not fall into the shadows and stayed true to her artistic journey. “Covid particularly changed my perception on life and timing. You have to be quick on your feet and adjust but your priorities should be clear. I prefer the scenic route in life, I want experiences, family is the most important thing, happiness and good health are most important. As storytellers, that goes hand in hand with our jobs. We need texture and experience, this comes with being fearless to take our time in learning and absorbing the world around. Artists are often the reflection of our times. I travelled a lot growing up, have a multi-ethic background, and often found myself feeling pulled in different directions. Taking the time to myself, spending it among different communities, especially women, enriches and anchors me. I am way more intentional with the choices I make now. I know exactly who I am, I accept what I am not, and am unafraid to step into my light.”
Full of smiles and optimism Alexandra is determined to keep going. With three film projects in pre-production for early 2025, the actress is gearing up for a busy year ahead. “I am filming a movie overseas I am super excited about. I want to cross-over internationally as much as possible. I grew up on a variety of international shows and movies. I had no clue what political preferences and background affiliations those actors or characters had, I simply connected to them and felt like I belong. If I can do that to someone, whether it’s because they think I look similar to them or they resonate with a character I’m playing, I am grateful to help someone feel seen and welcome.”
As far as Alexandra’s upcoming movie plans in Canada, we’ll have to wait in anticipation. “I would love to work in Canada, absolutely. You guys are the most down to earth, nicest people ever. After filming in Europe, I’m back to work in LA. We’ll see where the rest of the year leads. I am honored to chat with Rollingstone Canada, not a bad start to the year, for sure. Thank you”
